Profile of Orchestra

In 1956, a Symphony Orchestra was born as "Shonan Symphony Orchestra"
and in November of the same year,
the first concert was held. In 1965,
"Shonan Symphony Orchestra" changed its name into "Yokosuka Symphony Orchestra".
The Orchestra presents "Regular Concerts" as its main activities
which are performed twice a year as well as "Casual Concert"
, "Music for Fun Concert: for handicapped persons".
In total 8 to 9 performances in a year are maintained energetically which include
"Coming of Age Day Concert","Concert of Suite Yokosuka"
,"Concert Beethoven 9th" and also participating to the "Gathering of Citizen Music".
The "Yokosuka Symphony Orchestra" is well known as the orchestra
which is totally clear of any musical bias and expand its area of activities
from classical music into various type of music.
Following its Japanese premiere of Chinese composer Xian Xinghai's Piano Concerto
"The Yellow River" in 1972, the Orchestra performed in "Eki-Concert at Tokyo Station"
as the first amateur orchestra in 1988. In 1991,
the Orchestra won "40th Kanagawa cultural prize".
Today more than 150 members belong to the Orchestra
and its region oriented activity has been attracting attention
as a leading amateur orchestra in Kanagawa prefecture.
